Establishing the Generic setting for my genre.

Most of the films in my genre take place in a remote village in the south of America, normally in a cabin near the woods and near a lake This is because woods are remote so the characters are disconnected from the outside world, and the purpose of the lake is for the mystery as you never know what is at the bottom of the murky lake. An example of a film that uses this location as it's setting is Zombeavers. Like in the picture below.

However, some of the higher budget ones of these films will take place in cities such as California, films that use these settings are ones such as Sharknado 2. This is to show the power that the creature / monster / natural disaster has, as even cities with high populations aren't safe from the devastation of what is about to happen.

Furthermore, certain films will have the film set in a remote object, such as an airplane (Like in Airplane Vs. Volcano) This is because these objects fully isolate the characters from the outside, like the woods does, but even more, because the characters are stuck at a high altitude with no or little chance of being helped.

Another generic location is a secret laboratory, as it shows how the creature has escaped, and how it was created, also the location allows for some cheap jump scares to take place. Films that use these locations are ones like Lizard Boy, as they are a man made creation, that shows the true dark side of science. Also the fact that the laboratory is secret allows for some government cover up plot, also the characters know that they are the only ones who are going to be able to help themselves.
